Happy New Year! We hope you had a good start into the year 2017 and we wish you can make it a healthy one!
You’ve probably let yourself go during the holidays, but that’s ok. It wouldn’t be nice, if you rigorously count calories. But now we all have to get back to our daily routine. Why don’t we grasp this opportunity and use that positive energy that the New Year brings in taking care of ourselves! It’s all about your mindset and how you choose to approach the start of the new year.
Create new healthy habits
This plan will help you to revitalise your organism and build a healthy routine easily. But always remember: be kind to yourself, take things day by day and always strive for improvement, not perfection.

  • Alkalinize your body with water and lemon for a perfect start of the day
  • A glass of warm water with lemon in the morning will cleanse and hydrate your body, balance your PH and speed up metabolism. Feel free to add turmeric, ginger, black pepper and a bit of olive or coconut oil (the fats are needed to absorb the nutrients in turmeric).
  • Eat your greens
  • Green smoothies, salads, vegetable soups, or incorporated into other dishes. There are many ways to eat more vegetables. Especially green coloured vegetables are full of vitamins, phytonutrients and minerals.
  • Hydrate your body
  • This one is simple: Drink water, natural juices, and herbal teas and eat water-rich fruits and vegetables. You will help your body flush out the toxins accumulated during the Season holidays.
  • Break your sugar addiction
  • Season holidays and celebrations call for desserts and sweets but now we are back and should relax and give our body a break. Avoiding refined sugar makes a difference on your blood sugar levels, energy levels, overall mood, as well as on your waistline. There are many alternatives if it is hard for you to cut it out completely. Try fresh or dried fruits, dates, yogurt, coconut sugar or Stevia.
Tip: Herbal tea helps fighting your cravings for sweets.
  • Replace refined carbs with healthy complex carbs and legumes
  • It is time to replace refined carbohydrates found in bread, pasta and pizza with complex carbohydrates. Brown rice, quinoa and wheat bran are all considered as a healthy alternative. You can have whole wheat bread as a substitute for white bread.
Complex carbohydrates are high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. They will make you feel fuller longer! Legumes like chickpeas, lentils, and beans are also rich in protein, iron and other vitamins and minerals.
  • Cook your own meals
  • It is much harder to keep your healthy habits if you are eating out constantly. Cooking healthy food is very easy and not very time consuming. If you have a tight schedule during the week, prepare your meals on the weekend and freeze them. Fresh fruit and vegetables are quickly chopped up for a light, healthy lunch.
  • Get motivated to work out again
  • No need to rush things and push your body too far - take it at your own pace. Here some tips to get motivated:
Start very simple with 10 min a day. It is about getting your body moving on a daily basis and mixing it up.
Why not try a new class that you’re curious to try (such as Yoga, Pilates, kettle ball, boxing).
Make your workouts fun, play sports with friends to look forward to it.
Try doing different things everyday – it shouldn’t be boring (a fun class one day, a run in the park, cycling, an at-home workout using mobile Apps like ‘’Nike Training App or Sweat with Kayla’’).
Finally add fun to your healthy routine and enjoy getting into shape!
