When we think of Ramadan, one of the first things that pop into our heads is Vimto. This berry-flavored juice was first produced in England in 1908.
Most of us assume that this black juice is made of real berries, but this isn’t the case for it contains mere artificial flavors.
Today, you’re going to discover Vimto’s components together.
Vimto is so sweet, so what about the amount of sugar used in it?
Actually it contains 3 big teaspoons of solution (an amount makes a cup of juice) about 31 grams of sugar which equals 10% of the portion. Women need 25 grams and men need 31. Thus, this sugar amount is considered higher than the recommended one.
So, if your intake exceeded this amount, you might go through some problems. One teaspoon of sugar weakens the immune system by 50% for 2 hours and that makes your body unable to face bacteria, viruses, germs, and other diseases. Many studies demonstrated that sugar causes more than 140 diseases including: Alzheimer, cancer, cardiovascular and heart diseases, diabetes, cold and flu, obesity. It also makes children hyperactive and aggressive and it rushes the appearance of wrinkles for adults.

Besides sugar, Vimto contains water. Basically, water is the main component of this juice; this means that there is no fiber, no nutritional elements, no minerals or added vitamins. In other words, Vimto is just water! Therefore, it’s classified as one of the products that have no benefits for the body at all.
Vimto has also the raspberry and blackcurrant flavors (artificial ones only). So, there isn’t any natural source of natural fruits or berries.
Besides the artificial flavors, it contains artificial colors including caramel color E150 and Allura red E129, red 40.
Since these flavors and colors are artificial, you’re not expecting good impacts. Artificial colors cause hyperactivity in children. Too much of the color red particularly causes allergy, possibility of cancer, and abortion for pregnant women.

The Vimto sour lovely taste is due to the citric acid E330 that is used in it. This acid affects the teeth enamel and the stomach walls if taken a lot.
The juice has some sodium benzoate E211 which is a chemical used as a food preservative. Many studies showed that it might damage the DNA, cause cancer in the long term, and cause hyperactivity in children.
Another chemical found in Vimto is the Sulphur dioxide E220 and it’s used as a food preservative as well in most juices and soft drinks. This compound chemical is produced naturally in volcanoes and produced artificially by burning oil derivatives. The Sulphur dioxide is a polluting chemical and it causes acid rain. On the human body, it affects the digestive bacteria and thereby causes indigestion.
